Ripple to Add $10M in U.S. Treasuries to XRP Ledger

Highlights:

  • Ripple tokenizes U.S. Treasuries on XRP Ledger, enhancing RWA market and blockchain utility
  • Ripple invests $10M in OpenEden’s TBILLs, driving innovation in tokenized financial assets
  • The new fund includes stablecoin minting options, boosting XRP Ledger’s appeal for real-world assets

A Thursday press release announced that Ripple will offer short-term U.S. government debt on the XRP Ledger for the first time, making U.S. Treasuries and XRP holders able to access repurchases backed by collateral reserves. This effort is part of a larger fund that tokenises T-bills from OpenEden and other sources.

Ripple Invests $10M in OpenEden’s Tokenized T-Bills

A newly created fund will facilitate Ripple’s investment in OpenEden’s tokenised assets. Although Ripple has not disclosed the fund’s total size, it has committed $10 million to OpenEden’s TBILL tokens. This move is part of Ripple’s larger strategy to expand its presence in the tokenised T-bills and Real-World Assets (RWA) market.

Markus Infanger, Senior Vice President at RippleX, emphasized the importance of OpenEden’s tokenized U.S. Treasuries. Treasury bills are an example of the potential for real-world asset tokenization to drive utility and create new opportunities. The introduction of T-bills on the XRP Ledger is expected to strengthen the growing RWA tokenization market.

Ripple to Launch Stablecoin and Tokenized U.S. Treasuries

OpenEden, which currently holds over $75 million in total value locked for its U.S. T-bills, announced that users will soon be able to mint TBILLs using stablecoins. Ripple plans to introduce Ripple USD, a stablecoin tied to the U.S. dollar, later this year. The addition of TBILLs to the XRP Ledger is expected to enhance the platform’s utility and attract more users to the blockchain.

Currently, Tether’s USDT and Circle’s USDC are the leading stablecoins in the market. The introduction of Ripple USD and its integration with TBILLs could provide more options for users looking to mint and trade stablecoins backed by real-world assets.

Tokenization of financial securities and other real-world assets is an expanding market, attracting significant players such as BlackRock. These players have already brought millions of dollars worth of traditional assets on-chain. Ripple’s entry into this space with tokenized U.S. Treasuries is a significant step forward.

Ripple Advances Blockchain with Tokenized Treasuries and New Fund

The XRP Ledger supports features crucial to the RWA and DeFi markets, including automated market makers, lending protocols, native oracles, and decentralised identifiers. These features make the XRP Ledger an attractive platform for tokenizing real-world assets and facilitating global financial transfers and currency exchanges.

Ripple’s allocation of funds to tokenized T-bills provided by OpenEden and other issuers is expected to drive further innovation in the RWA market. Neither OpenEden nor Ripple Labs specified the fund’s allocation dates in the press release.

Ripple’s initiative to tokenize U.S. Treasuries on the XRP Ledger marks advancing the blockchain and cryptocurrency industries. By integrating stablecoins and real-world assets, Ripple aims to enhance the utility of the XRP Ledger and drive the growth of the RWA market. Ripple’s new partnership with OpenEden showcases its commitment to innovation. They’re launching a new fund to further blockchain technology.
