Highlights:
- Binance’s stablecoin reserves dropped to $41.6 billion after the exchange lost $6.3 billion since April this year.
- Bybit, Coinbase, and OKX also saw their stablecoin reserves fall as the broader crypto market struggled.
- Analysts say weak investor demand and limited fresh capital could delay a broader crypto market recovery.
Binance’s stablecoin reserves have dropped to $41.6 billion, their lowest level in a year. Since April 2026, the exchange has seen $6.3 billion leave its stablecoin reserves. Other major crypto exchanges have also reported declines, pointing to weaker liquidity across the market.
In an October 21 report, CryptoQuant analyst Darkfost said Binance’s ERC-20 stablecoin reserves had fallen to levels last seen in early October 2025. He attributed the decline to weaker investor demand and a lack of fresh capital entering the crypto market.

Binance Stablecoin Reserves Fall by $6.3 Billion Since April
Darkfost reported that Binance’s stablecoin reserves have remained under pressure since June. Over the past 90 days, their value has declined by approximately 4.7%. Meanwhile, monthly stablecoin net flows have averaged $62 million in outflows. As a result, falling exchange reserves can signal reduced buying power in the market. However, withdrawals do not always mean investors are leaving crypto entirely. Despite the decline, Binance still holds more than 70% of stablecoin reserves across exchanges covered by the analysis.
Bybit, Coinbase and OKX Also Record Reserve Losses
Other major exchanges have seen substantial declines since April. Darkfost reported that Bybit’s stablecoin reserves fell by $2.3 billion, while Coinbase Advanced lost $2.5 billion and OKX recorded a $2.4 billion reduction. Together, the three platforms saw $7.2 billion in reserve declines over the period. The figures point to a wider shift in exchange liquidity rather than a problem confined to Binance.
The analyst said liquidity briefly improved in late August, but the recovery did not last. Since then, exchange reserves have continued to face pressure as fresh capital remains limited.
Darkfost offered two possible explanations. Exchanges may be adjusting the stablecoin supply available on their platforms because fewer investors want to trade cryptocurrencies. Some investors may also be moving funds elsewhere to earn yields while waiting for more favorable market conditions. Neither explanation confirms where all the withdrawn stablecoins went. Still, both would reduce the amount available for immediate trading on centralized exchanges.
What Falling Stablecoin Reserves Mean for Crypto Markets
Lower exchange balances can make it harder for sustained buying demand to develop, especially when traders remain cautious. However, reserve declines alone cannot predict Bitcoin’s next price move or confirm whether the market has bottomed out.
The weakness also extends beyond exchange holdings. According to DefiLlama’s stablecoin data for October 21, the total stablecoin market was worth about $301.1 billion, down roughly 0.8% over seven days. That measure covers stablecoins across blockchain networks, not just tokens held by exchanges.
Stablecoin inflows to exchanges need to resume in order to allow for a sustained recovery, Darkfost said. The lack of liquidity in trading is likely to be a problem for the whole cryptocurrency sector until those deposits improve.
