Bitget to Stop Crypto Services for Some Users, Says Funds Remain Safe

Highlights:

  • Bitget plans to end services for selected users but says its exchange will continue operating normally.
  • Affected users will receive account notifications explaining withdrawal arrangements, deadlines, and how to handle pending orders.
  • Bitget says customer funds remain safe and has not explained which users face restrictions or why.

Cryptocurrency exchange Bitget has announced that it will stop providing services to certain users while keeping its platform running. The company described the decision as a one-time measure and said affected customers would receive instructions on withdrawing their funds. However, it has not disclosed how many accounts are affected or why it selected them.

In an October 17 statement on X, Bitget said, “While the Bitget platform continues to operate, we have made the decision to discontinue services for certain users.” It added that customers who receive no official notice can continue using their accounts as usual.

Bitget to Notify Affected Users About Withdrawals

Bitget said it would contact affected users through email, in-app messages, or push notifications. Each notice will explain the next steps, including relevant deadlines and arrangements for withdrawing funds. The company did not provide a common deadline for all affected users. Instead, it advised customers to follow the instructions sent to their individual accounts.

“This is a one-off exercise for certain users only,” Bitget said. The exchange has not identified the countries, account types, or other criteria behind the decision. It also did not explain why it ended services for these customers.

Meanwhile, Bitget said its customer support team would help affected users with withdrawals, pending orders, and other account questions throughout the process. The announcement did not indicate any platform-wide suspension of trading or withdrawals.

Bitget Says User Funds Remain Safe

Bitget assured customers that their assets remain safe despite the upcoming service changes. It also directed users to a guide explaining how they can verify their holdings through the exchange’s proof-of-reserves system. According to the guide on Bitget’s official website, users can review their asset records and check whether their balances appear in the exchange’s published reserve snapshots.

The system uses a verification method called a Merkle tree, which lets customers check whether the exchange included their account balances in its reported reserves. However, the exchange urged customers to remain cautious about phishing links and accounts impersonating Bitget.

“For the latest information, refer only to Bitget’s official website, app, Support Center, and verified social channels,” the company said. Customers who have not received a notification can continue trading and using other available services under the platform’s normal terms and conditions.

Bitget Previously Restricted Services in France and Japan

The latest announcement follows earlier service changes in some countries. In January 2026, Bitget announced plans to discontinue services for French residents by March 31 as part of its compliance efforts under European Union crypto regulations. The exchange also announced restrictions for Japanese residents. Under that plan, affected accounts will face trading restrictions beginning November 1, with remaining positions scheduled for closure by December 31.

However, Bitget has not linked its October 17 decision to those earlier country-specific restrictions. The exchange has advised affected customers to follow their individual account notifications for withdrawal deadlines and other instructions.
