Highlights:
- Binance now controls nearly 30% of Bitcoin held across major exchanges, making its reserve moves market-moving.
- The 77,000 BTC increase since late April came from investor transfers, SAFU buying, and possible security concerns.
- Despite the larger Binance balance, Glassnode says recent Bitcoin profit-taking has slowed from August’s much stronger levels.
Bitcoin reserves on Binance have climbed above 693,000 BTC, their highest level in two years, according to CryptoQuant analyst Darkfost. The increase puts nearly 30% of the Bitcoin held across major exchange reserves on Binance and has brought fresh attention to the amount of BTC available on the market’s largest trading venue.
Darkfost shared the data on September 10, saying Binance’s Bitcoin reserves have grown by roughly 77,000 BTC since late April. The analyst linked much of the increase to investors moving coins onto the exchange during Bitcoin’s May rally and its more recent rebound. Because Binance has deep trading liquidity, large Bitcoin flows often appear there when holders prepare to trade or sell.
Exchange inflows do not prove that investors will immediately sell their Bitcoin. However, rising exchange balances can increase the amount of BTC readily available for trading, which is why large changes in reserves are closely watched.

Binance Reserve Growth Includes SAFU Bitcoin Purchases
Darkfost also pointed to Binance’s Secure Asset Fund for Users (SAFU) as another contributor to the rise. Binance previously announced plans to deploy about $1 billion from the fund into Bitcoin, targeting roughly 15,000 BTC. According to the analyst, the move was intended to support the Bitcoin ecosystem during the market correction. As a result, not all of the recent increase in Binance reserves should be viewed as investor deposits made for selling.
Darkfost also suggested that security concerns may have played a role. Following the ColdCard incident, some Bitcoin holders may have preferred moving funds to a third-party platform instead of keeping them in self-custody. Still, he warned that the scale of the reserve increase deserves attention because it could create additional selling pressure if more holders decide to exit positions.
Bitcoin was trading near $77,201 at the time of writing, down about 1.12% over the previous 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap. The cryptocurrency also remains about 38.8% below its all-time high of $126,080, reached on October 6, 2025.
Bitcoin Selling Pressure Eases Despite Higher Binance Reserves
The higher Binance balance comes as Bitcoin continues to struggle below $80,000. However, separate Glassnode data suggests actual on-chain selling pressure has recently eased.
Glassnode reported that Bitcoin’s seven-day Sell-Side Risk Ratio had fallen to 7 basis points per day, down from 16 at the August peak. Long-term holders also accounted for 47% of realized profit, compared with 88% during that earlier peak. The firm identified roughly 1.07 million BTC acquired between $83,000 and $86,000, leaving that zone as an important area above the current price.

However, investors are acquiring coins here.
Should we break below this newly forming cluster, $75k is the level to watch.
After that a full retrace to $60k would be in play. https://t.co/5FbBD2JFhi pic.twitter.com/uyLwLlE0ir

Taken together, the data presents a mixed picture. More Bitcoin is sitting on Binance and could become available for sale, while broader on-chain data shows holders are currently realizing fewer profits. The next move will depend on whether those exchange reserves remain idle or begin turning into actual market supply.
