US President Donald Trump will reveal plans for a Bitcoin reserve at the upcoming White House Crypto Summit on March 7, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick reportedly told the news outlet. He said the President sees a strategic Bitcoin reserve as a crucial part of America’s financial future.

Lutnick stated:

“A bitcoin strategic reserve is something the President’s interested in. He spoke about it all during the campaign trail, and I think you’re going to see it executed on Friday.”

Lutnick shared that President Trump has consistently backed the idea of a US Bitcoin reserve, bringing it up during his campaign. He believes this will turn into action on Friday. Lutnick suggested that Bitcoin would have special status under Trump’s plans, while other crypto assets would follow a separate framework.

“So Bitcoin is one thing, and then the other currencies, the other crypto tokens, I think, will be treated differently—positively, but differently,” he added. In his previous statement, Trump noted that the US crypto reserve would also include Ethereum (ETH), XRP, Solana (SOL), and Cardano (ADA) alongside Bitcoin.

Despite the recent announcements, there are still questions about how the crypto reserve will be funded and if it will happen. Both the Federal Reserve and Treasury Department options would likely need new laws from Congress.

Last Friday, White House AI and crypto czar David Sacks revealed that President Trump would host the first-ever White House Crypto Summit on March 7. The summit aims to create a definitive regulatory framework for cryptocurrency, foster innovation, and strengthen economic freedom.

Industry leaders, investors, and government officials will gather with the administration to discuss the future of digital assets. Confirmed attendees include Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, Paradigm co-founder Matt Huang, Strategy executive chairman Michael Saylor, Chainlink co-founder Sergey Nazarov, and Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev according to FOX Business journalist Eleanor Terrett.

According to an email invitation, the event will run from 1:30 PM to 5:30 PM, with no additional details about the agenda. David Sacks and Bo Hines will moderate the summit, Terrett reported in a separate statement.

CEOs of Coinbase and Gemini Argue Bitcoin is the Only Fit for US Reserve

Following the announcement of the crypto strategic reserve, the CEOs of Coinbase and Gemini argued that Bitcoin may be the only cryptocurrency suitable for the US reserve asset. in a March 3 X post, Gemini’s Tyler Winklevoss stated, “Only one digital asset in the world right now meets the bar, and that digital asset is Bitcoin.” Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong supported the idea, saying, “Just Bitcoin would probably be the best option” due to its simplicity and potential as a gold successor.
