BitMine Nears Its Goal of Holding 5% of Ethereum
BitMine is now close to its target of owning 5% of all ETH. The company calls this plan the “Alchemy of 5%.” Its latest holdings represent 4.95% of the reported 122.2 million ETH supply. The company valued its ETH at about $14.3 billion, using an Ethereum price of $2,356. It also reported holding 215 Bitcoin and $514 million in cash and marketable securities.
Its other investments include $180 million in Beast Industries and $76 million in Eightco Holdings. Together, these assets bring its reported holdings to $15 billion.
BitMine remains the largest publicly traded Ethereum treasury company, according to its statement. It ranks behind Strategy among crypto treasury companies overall. Strategy holds Bitcoin as its main treasury asset. Meanwhile, Strategy reported no Bitcoin purchases or sales between October 19 and 25. Instead, it spent $204.9 million repurchasing 2.07 million STRC preferred shares. The company continues to hold 848,517 BTC, acquired for about $64.02 billion at an average price of $75,446 per Bitcoin.
Ethereum Staking Could Bring in $318 Million a Year
BitMine is not simply holding ETH in its treasury. It also stakes much of it to earn rewards from the Ethereum network. As of October 25, the company had staked 5,227,037 ETH. That amount was worth about $12.3 billion at the price used in its report. It also represents around 86% of the company’s ETH holdings.
Staking involves locking ETH into the network’s validation system. Validators help process transactions and keep the blockchain secure. In return, they can earn rewards. BitMine estimates that its current staked ETH could generate $318 million in rewards per year. If it stakes all its ETH, that figure could rise to $368 million. Both numbers are projections, not guaranteed earnings.
The estimates use a seven-day staking yield of 2.58%. Actual rewards may change as network conditions and staking yields change. The company also operates MAVAN, its own Ethereum staking platform. BitMine says the service now works with institutional investors, custodians, and other partners.
BitMine Buys Back More Shares as Tom Lee Backs Crypto Recovery
BitMine also repurchased 2.04 million of its own shares last week. It paid an average of $22.48 per share. So far in 2026, the company has bought back 22.9 million shares for about $399.6 million. Lee said further purchases will depend on whether management considers the stock undervalued and on market conditions.
Lee also addressed the recent weakness in crypto prices. “Crypto got pulled down by the same ‘risk off’ forces behind the AI sell-off,” he said. He noted that ETH had fallen 13% from its recent peak. Meanwhile, US semiconductor stocks had dropped 20% over the same period. Lee sees that comparison as a sign of strength in the crypto market, though future prices remain uncertain.
At the time of writing, ETH was trading at $2,314, down 0.68% over the past 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap. The price is down 53% from its all-time high of $4,953, recorded on August 24 last year.
