- Ripple has received final OCC approval to establish a national trust bank for its digital asset services.
- The new bank will manage RLUSD stablecoin reserves and offer digital asset custody services to institutions.
- Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin has reached a $2.5 billion market cap as the company expands its regulated services.
Ripple has received final approval from the US Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) to establish Ripple National Trust Bank (RNTB), according to the company. The new bank will manage reserves backing Ripple USD (RLUSD) and provide digital asset custody services for institutional clients. The approval gives Ripple a federally supervised trust bank as it expands its financial services business.
Ripple announced the decision in an October 26 press release. The company had received conditional approval from the OCC in December 2025. According to Ripple, the latest decision completes the bank’s chartering process.

Ripple Trust Bank to Manage RLUSD Reserves
Ripple National Trust Bank will oversee the assets held to back RLUSD, the company’s US dollar stablecoin. The bank will also serve as a collateral trustee for RLUSD holders. That role involves managing reserve assets for their benefit. In addition, RNTB will be able to provide fiduciary digital asset custody services once it opens.
However, the new bank will not take over issuing RLUSD. Standard Custody & Trust Company, Ripple’s existing trust company regulated by the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS), will continue issuing the stablecoin. Ripple said the new charter adds federal oversight to its existing state-regulated operations. CEO Brad Garlinghouse welcomed the decision, saying, “For years, we’ve said crypto and banks work better together.” He said the charter would support Ripple’s work in payments, custody and capital markets.
RLUSD Market Cap Reaches $2.5 Billion
Ripple launched RLUSD in December 2024. According to the company, the stablecoin has since reached a market capitalization of $2.5 billion. Ripple uses it in its payments network and as collateral through Ripple Prime, its institutional brokerage platform.
Ripple backs RLUSD with US dollar deposits, US government securities and other cash equivalents. BNY holds the reserves as the main custodian. Each month, Ripple releases an independent report showing how much RLUSD is in circulation and how much it holds in reserves. These reports help institutions verify that RLUSD has sufficient assets backing it. Ripple’s new trust bank will manage those reserves and serve as a trustee for RLUSD holders.
Federal Approval Expands Ripple’s Regulated Services
Unlike a traditional commercial bank, a national trust bank focuses on holding and managing clients’ assets. Such banks generally do not offer everyday checking accounts or personal loans. A national trust charter also does not automatically mean that customer funds carry FDIC deposit insurance.
During the December review, the OCC also conditionally approved trust bank applications involving BitGo, Fidelity Digital Assets, Paxos and First National Digital Currency Bank. The regulator said it reviewed each application against the same standards used for other bank charter requests.
The latest announcement comes as the US develops its stablecoin rules under the GENIUS Act. Ripple said it will continue working with the OCC, NYDFS and other regulators as RNTB begins operations. Ripple has not given a specific opening date for the bank. Once operational, its approved custody services will add another regulated offering for institutions using digital assets.
At the time of writing, XRP was trading at $1.29, down 0.21% over the past 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap.
