Crypto Weekly Market Wrap July 27 – ETF Trends, Global Crypto Rules and Security Incidents Shape Industry

The crypto market recorded a packed week of fund filings, regulatory changes, security incidents, and new trading products. Several governments made steps towards more transparent regulations, and financial institutions widened their offering of tokenized assets and stablecoins.

Meanwhile, continuing operational risks were reflected in bridge attacks, account compromises, and exchange closures. Meanwhile, large companies launched new funds, storage solutions, and security schemes, while the Bitcoin treasury strategies faced pressure. In the sections below, we will discuss major developments that made headlines last week.

Grayscale Files for a Worldcoin ETF

Grayscale filed an S-1 statement with the SEC for a Worldcoin investment fund on July 20. The proposed Nasdaq product would trade under GWLD and provide brokerage investors with direct exposure to WLD. Approval by the SEC will be required first.

Moreover, the trust would hold only WLD and track the CoinDesk Worldcoin Benchmark Rate. Grayscale did not include leverage, derivatives, staking, lending, pledging, or the utilization of collateral from the plan. A couple of financial terms remained blank.

Wanchain Bridge Losses 515 Million NIGHT

The Wanchain Cardano–BNB bridge suffered an exploit that reportedly drained about 515 million NIGHT tokens from its treasury on July 20. However, the Midnight Foundation said the breach affected third-party bridge infrastructure, not Midnight’s blockchain or core systems.

Meanwhile, Midnight said its protocol, validators, and consensus continued operating normally. The foundation worked with Wanchain while warning users about impersonation and phishing. It also stressed that the NIGHT token itself did not cause the incident.

Satsuma Shareholders End Bitcoin Treasury Strategy

Satsuma shareholders approved selling the company’s remaining 668 Bitcoin and leaving the London Stock Exchange on July 20. More than 90% backed the proposals, overturning the position supported by four of six directors.

After the sale, Satsuma expected to return between £26.8 million and £30 million. Convertible noteholders would receive priority. Meanwhile, court hearings would review the capital return before the planned September delisting and distributions.

London Exchange Plans Overnight ETP Trading

The London Stock Exchange outlined a separate overnight venue for the first half of 2027 on July 20. The session would run from 5:00 p.m. until 7:50 a.m., with one processing break. A processing pause splits sessions. Initially, the venue would list exchange-traded products linked to UK and US markets. Meanwhile, London’s main market would keep its standard daytime schedule and existing share-trading structure. Initial plans excluded individual shares.

Trump Accepts CLARITY Act Ethics Terms

President Donald Trump approved ethics provisions within the CLARITY Act on July 21. The agreement eased one major dispute around the crypto market structure bill. The clauses would restrict federal officials from profiting from digital assets while serving. However, Senate Majority Leader John Thune said voting likely would not finish before the summer recess. Disputes over official crypto activity and stablecoin yields still threatened the schedule, despite hopes for initial deliberations.

UK Lawmakers Open Crypto Banking Inquiry

On July 21, the UK Crypto and Digital Assets APPG opened an inquiry into banking access for crypto firms and customers. Lawmakers planned to examine account closures, payment limits, and access to essential financial services. Additionally, the review would assess effects on innovation, investment, competition, and growth. Banks, crypto companies, regulators, academics, and consumer groups could submit evidence through August 31 before the APPG prepared recommendations.

Brazil Tokenizes Cattle for Agricultural Credit

Brazilian farm Fazenda Engenho Velho completed a formally registered livestock tokenization deal on B3 on July 21. The farm secured agricultural credit worth 100,000 reais by using ten cows as collateral.

Meanwhile, Cowmed AI collars recorded health, location, and behavior data for each animal. Those records created encrypted digital identities linked to loan contracts, reducing manual checks and supporting digital collateral management.

CoinShares Launches a Bitcoin Mining ETF

CoinShares launched a UCITS platform and introduced its first fund on Deutsche Börse Xetra on July 21. The Bitcoin Mining UCITS ETF began trading under MINE and carried a 0.65% total expense ratio. Rather than holding Bitcoin, the Irish-domiciled fund invested in listed mining companies. Moreover, it used physical replication, quarterly rebalancing, and an accumulating dollar share class. CoinShares planned additional regulated funds through the platform.

Pakistan Creates a Dedicated Crypto Unit

Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency established a cryptocurrency investigation unit within the National Command and Control Centre on July 21. The team would examine virtual assets linked to money laundering, terrorist financing, and other crimes. Additionally, the center combined anti-money laundering work, cyber patrols, dark web investigations, intelligence coordination, and Interpol cooperation. PVARA would oversee sector regulation, while the FIA unit would focus on criminal enforcement.

Russia Passes Its First Broad Crypto Law

On July 21, Russia’s State Duma passed comprehensive digital currency legislation through its second and third readings. The bill then moved toward the Federation Council and presidential signature, with most provisions starting September 1. Under the law, licensed intermediaries could sell approved crypto assets to retail investors under an annual cap. Qualified investors would face broader access. However, Russia would keep its domestic cryptocurrency payment ban.

Samson Mow Mocks Bitcoin BIP 110

Samson Mow criticized BIP 110 and its proposed limits on transaction data on July 22. He made a fictional scenario describing the Bitcoin network with delayed blocks, rented mining power, and strict community enforcement.

It's been three years since BIP110 activated. The suitcoiners, corrupt devs, and Blockstream call it Bipcoin, or Bcashjr, and they laugh. But we know the truth. It's the real Bitcoin.

There were 159 of us at activation. Now there are 83.

Nobody planned that number. It just… https://t.co/xU8HRjl4i1

— Samson Mow (@Excellion) July 22, 2026

In particular, the story revolved around an 84-byte OP_RETURN output, which is just over one byte on the proposed limit. This would restrict Bitcoin’s open and permissionless nature, creating social pressure, Mow said.

Grayscale Weighs Bitcoin’s Final Market Bottom

Grayscale Research said Bitcoin may have already bottomed under stable economic conditions on July 22. That view depended on the Federal Reserve avoiding further rate increases. However, its historical cycle model pointed toward another decline before autumn. Under that cycle view, Bitcoin could reach a final low during September or October. Meanwhile, Zach Pandl favored the macro explanation, arguing that rates, growth, and institutional demand now shape Bitcoin more strongly.

Kraken Parent Expands Tokenized Stock Plans

Kraken parent Payward partnered with GTN to bring Hong Kong-listed equities to xStocks on July 22. GTN would provide execution, custody, and record-keeping for the securities backing each token. Moreover, the partners planned to add shares from the United Kingdom, Europe, and South Korea. Each expansion would depend on regulatory approvals within the relevant markets and product jurisdictions.

Ripple Expands Institutional RLUSD Management Through Mint

Ripple launched Ripple Mint to help institutions access, mint, redeem, bridge, and manage RLUSD on July 23. Customers could use a user interface or connect the platform directly with internal systems. Moreover, new APIs and webhooks would automate stablecoin workflows and provide transaction updates. Institutions could track fiat receipt, mint processing, blockchain settlement, balances, and payouts through one operating platform.

Robinhood CEO Account Hacked to Promote Scam Token

Hackers compromised Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev’s X account and promoted a memecoin called Vladhood on July 23. The post falsely referred to VLAD as the official mascot of Robinhood Chain and promised an app listing.

Later on, Robinhood acknowledged the compromise and deleted the post. The Robinhood blockchain explorer identified the token as a potential scam, following almost 1,900 recorded transactions. X assisted in the restoration of access.

Japan Considers Bitcoin ETFs for 2028

Japan said on July 23 that it is expecting Bitcoin exchange-traded funds as soon as 2028, following plans to revise financial and investment trust laws. As regulators move crypto into the financial product framework, several asset managers have reportedly given it a second look.

Additionally, a survey by Nomura and Laser Digital revealed very strong institutional interest in future allocations. However, analysts predicted retail savings would account for most inflows, forecasting it to reach three trillion yen by fiscal 2028.

Uniswap Introduces New Permissioned Pool Standards

Uniswap Labs launched Permissioned Pools, a new Hook standard built on Uniswap v4 on July 23. The design enables issuers to directly set the permissions of their wallets in the protocol for regulated on-chain assets. Furthermore, the system checks permissions during every trade and liquidity addition. Early partners included Superstate, Securitize, and Dowgo. The standard could support tokenized funds, securities, equities, and other permissioned products.

EU Expands Sanctions Against Crypto Platforms

The European Union’s latest Russia sanctions package added transaction bans against fourteen crypto-related platforms across six jurisdictions on July 23. Officials linked those services to efforts that helped Russian entities avoid existing restrictions. Moreover, the package created a legal basis for broader country-level crypto service bans. The EU had not used that mechanism yet. Existing wallet and custody restrictions also expanded to cover other crypto services.

Ondo Secures New Tokenized Securities Permissions

Ondo Finance said on July 23 that Oasis Pro Markets received FINRA authorizations for tokenized equities and funds. The approvals support regulated primary offerings, private placements, retail distribution, and secondary trading under US oversight. Furthermore, Oasis Pro could offer equities, ETFs, mutual funds, index funds, and IPO securities. Settlement could use fiat or supported stablecoins. Existing broker channels could also provide access through omnibus account structures.

Strategy Forms New Bitcoin Security Consortium

On July 23, Strategy launched the Bitcoin Security Consortium with BlackRock, Coinbase, Galaxy, Anchorage, ARK Invest, Blockstream, Block, and Digital Asset. Members committed $15 million over three years.

Today we're announcing the Bitcoin Security Consortium @BTCconsortium: a group of leading financial institutions and Bitcoin companies supporting the long-term security of the Bitcoin network.

— Strategy (@Strategy) July 23, 2026

Initially, the consortium would study quantum computing risks to Bitcoin cryptography. However, the group said it would not direct protocol development. Instead, it would support existing open-source developers and security researchers.

BitMEX Announces its September Exchange Closure

On July 23, BitMEX announced plans to close at 04:00 UTC on September 23 after a prolonged sale process failed. The derivatives exchange also stopped accepting new user registrations. Starting August 26, BitMEX would block new positions and begin progressive forced liquidations. The platform once pioneered perpetual swaps. However, larger offshore rivals later captured its market share.

Odos Announces a Complete Service Shutdown

DEX aggregator Odos announced that its operating entity would close on July 23. The application entered read-only mode on July 27, while all services would shut permanently on July 30. However, the non-custodial structure kept user funds on-chain. Users with social or email wallets needed to move assets or export keys. The ODOS token would continue existing independently through its on-chain mechanics.

South Korea Advances New Stablecoin Legislation

South Korea’s Financial Services Commission planned faster progress on the Digital Assets Basic Act. On July 23, officials noted they are aiming to finish stablecoin legislation within the year. Regulators also considered broader crypto access for corporations and financial institutions.

Moreover, officials explored dedicated brokers, over-the-counter platforms, and lower barriers for banks and securities firms. Those changes could ease restrictions imposed since 2017 while expanding custody, intermediary, and security token services.

Sberbank Plans New Crypto Custody Infrastructure

On July 24, Sberbank said it is planning cryptocurrency trading infrastructure and a digital custody system by December 1. The platform would record client ownership while supporting regulated trading, custody, settlement, deposits, withdrawals, and transfers.

Meanwhile, Russia’s new framework would take effect on September 1. Licensed intermediary requirements would follow in July 2027. Public trading would focus on liquid assets, while domestic crypto payments would remain prohibited.

Argentina Proposes Wider Crypto Investment Rules

Argentina proposed allowing mutual funds to invest in Bitcoin and other crypto assets under their investment policies on July 24. Officials also considered permitting digital assets as collateral for regulated loans. The draft would authorize blockchain-based issuance, custody, and trading for stocks and bonds. However, the proposal still required presidential support before reaching Congress for formal debate and approval.

World Foundation Sells Discounted WLD Tokens

The World Foundation sold 217.4 million WLD to institutional investors, including Pantera Capital, for about $52.5 million on July 25. The implied price stood near $0.24, representing a discount to the market price. The tokens carried a one-year lockup and did not grant equity or profit rights. Proceeds would support World ID expansion. The network reported 39 million users and 18 million Orb verifications.

Digital Asset Investment Products Market Overview

According to data from Sosovalue, U.S. spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs drew $137.69 million from July 20 through July 24. Ethereum funds led with $103.9 million, nearly triple Bitcoin’s $33.79 million total. Both categories extended their weekly inflow streaks to three, despite late-week withdrawals. Bitcoin funds lost $465.26 million across Thursday and Friday, while Ethereum funds shed $70.62 million on Friday.

Altcoin ETFs also finished the week with net gains. XRP funds attracted $8.15 million, while Solana products added $7.2 million. LINK ETFs gained nearly $3 million, and DOGE funds received over $351,000. However, Hyperliquid ETFs posted $8.61 million in weekly outflows during this period.

Bitcoin Price Performance

The largest asset, Bitcoin, posted an impressive performance last week, reaching highs last seen in June. BTC surged from lows of $64K and rallied above $66K, where it faced a rejection leading to a minor pullback. The price was hovering around $65,060, with a market capitalization of $3 trillion at the time of this writing.

Looking at the technical perspective, the price still exhibits a bullish reversal pattern as it seeks to challenge the middle Bollinger band around $69,447. A successful break above this mark could lead to a retest at the upper band around $82,245. Meanwhile, the 14-day RSI has recovered to 40 levels from the oversold region, indicating increased buying pressure in the market.
