On October 10th, Justin Sun, the founder of Tron, was elected as the new Prime Minister of Liberland, a self-proclaimed libertarian micronation between Croatia and Serbia on the Danube River. In a blockchain-based election, Sun secured his position and now aims to promote his vision for a nation built on libertarian principles.

Justin Sun’s Vision for Liberland’s Future

According to his post on X on October 11, Sun outlined his vision for Liberland, focusing on minimal government intervention, reduced taxes, and increased individual freedom. He believes that by minimizing government spending and interference, Liberland can achieve economic prosperity and become a model for other nations to follow.

Justin Sun compares Liberland to Vatican City, serving as a symbolic center for libertarians worldwide. He foresees Liberland as an ideological homeland where shared values of freedom, autonomy, and voluntary governance are respected.

Sun stated, “Libertarians everywhere may have their own countries and nationalities, but Liberland will serve as their ideological homeland.” He emphasizes that Liberland’s governance is based on shared principles rather than geographic boundaries or bloodlines.

Promoting Minimalistic Governance

Sun aims to reduce government expenditure, lower taxes, and minimize interference in citizens’ lives. He argues that minimalistic governance will enhance economic strength and allow citizens to thrive. Sun cites innovators like Elon Musk, who advocate for less centralized control and greater individual freedom.

He said:

“Elon Musk shares the belief that individual freedom and minimal government interference are essential for fostering creativity, progress, and prosperity. His advocacy for less centralized control aligns with the values that Liberland stands for.”

Sun also aligned Liberland’s vision with other global figures like Argentine President Javier Milei and U.S. Congressman Ron Paul, who support similar ideas of limited government and personal liberty.

Mixed Reactions from the Crypto Community

The crypto community has had mixed reactions to Justin Sun’s appointment as Liberland’s Prime Minister. Charles Hoskinson, co-founder of Ethereum and Cardano, responded with a video of himself laughing, indicating skepticism about the development. “I’m either laughing or crying. This cycle is a new level of ridiculous,” Hoskinson commented.

Despite the skepticism, Sun remains committed to his role and plans to use his experience in international governance to promote the idea of small government. He previously served as Grenada’s representative at the World Trade Organization from 2021 to 2023. Sun believes Liberland can be a global hub for libertarian principles and inspire other nations to adopt similar governance models.

Sun was elected through a blockchain-based election, reflecting Liberland’s commitment to using technology for transparent governance. Other members elected to Liberland’s Congress include Indian entrepreneur Evan Luthra, former politician Ivan Pernar, journalist Jillian Godsi, and IT professional Dorian Stern Vukotić.

Liberland aims to utilize blockchain technology for citizenship management, voting, and other government operations. Liberland’s embrace of crypto and decentralized philosophies aligns with Sun’s background in the crypto industry. Liberland holds 99% of its reserves in Bitcoin and has its own digital currency, the Liberland dollar token ($LLD), tradable on decentralized exchanges.

However, neighboring countries and the international community continue to challenge Liberland’s legitimacy, as they do not officially recognize it. The territory it claims was initially a contested area that neither Croatia nor Serbia claimed after the dissolution of Yugoslavia. Attempts by self-proclaimed citizens to inhabit the land have resulted in arrests by Croatian authorities.

Despite these challenges, Sun is optimistic about Liberland’s future. He believes that by showing the effectiveness of minimal government and the Liberland’s principles, Liberland can gain recognition and inspire other nations. Sun stated, “Our success can inspire other nations to embrace libertarian principles.”
