Highlights:
- Bitcoin spot trading volume on Binance falls below $1 billion as crypto market activity weakens sharply.
- Darkfost says current Binance Bitcoin volume is the lowest recorded since the end of the 2023 bear market.
- Bitcoin demand improves to 10,883 BTC, but traders still wait for stronger volume and clearer momentum.
Bitcoin spot trading volume on Binance has fallen below $1 billion as activity across the crypto market slows. The drop shows that fewer traders are buying and selling Bitcoin compared with previous periods. Darkfost shared the data on August 19, using figures from CryptoQuant. He said Binance handles nearly 40% of trading volume across all exchanges. Because of this, activity on Binance can give a useful view of broader market interest.
Bitcoin trading volume on Binance has dropped below $1 billion. More than two years ago, BTC spot trading on Binance topped $15 billion on several days. Darkfost said the current level is the lowest since the 2023 bear market.

Bitcoin Trading Activity Falls as Investors Stay Quiet
Low trading volume usually means fewer investors are actively entering the market. Darkfost said the latest decline shows that many traders are staying on the sidelines. At the same time, Bitcoin volatility has also remained low. Darkfost said weak market activity may look negative, but low-volatility periods can sometimes give investors a chance to build positions before stronger price moves return.
However, low volume alone does not guarantee that Bitcoin will rise. Traders may still wait for stronger demand and higher trading activity before becoming more confident.
Bitcoin was trading near $64,324 at the time of writing, up around 0.86% over the last 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap. The platform also showed about $17.03 billion in Bitcoin trading volume, down more than 20.87% from the previous day. Meanwhile, BTC remains about 49% below its all-time high of $126,198, which it reached on October 6 last year.

Glassnode also noted a sharp slowdown in Bitcoin trading activity. The analytics firm said Bitcoin was seeing its quietest market since 2019, with spot trading volume falling to its lowest level in years. Meanwhile, futures open interest remained high even as trading activity stayed weak.

Bitcoin Demand Shows Early Signs of Improvement
Despite weak trading volume, another update from Darkfost showed a small improvement in Bitcoin demand. In a separate August 19 post, Darkfost said Bitcoin demand reached 10,883 BTC, the highest level recorded so far this year. He added that demand has started to improve after a long period of weakness.
However, the recovery is not too big. Traders will be keeping an eye on whether demand increases or declines in the upcoming days. Darkfost also gave us a long-term overview of the Bitcoin trades conducted on Binance. According to his calculations, the number of trades for Bitcoin conducted on Binance amounts to more than $200 trillion since 2020. Currently, the price of Bitcoin is about $64,000, while spot transactions are few. Increased interest could mean that investors are back in the market.
