ADA Holders Gain Voting Power
The Plomin Hard Fork is scheduled for today at 21:45 UTC. This upgrade allows ADA holders to cast their votes on various blockchain parameters, treasury distribution, and new upgrades. Governance participants can also transfer their votes to the Delegated Representatives (DReps).
Cardano’s governance framework is based on CIP-1694, which aims for a decentralized decision-making system. The hard fork is the transition to the Voltaire era, where governance is handed over to the community by developers. At least 51% of the Stake Pool Operators (SPOs) have to approve the update. As of last week, 78% of nodes had upgraded.
The Cardano Foundation described this hard fork as a new era of blockchain governance. This upgrade has been supported by EMURGO and ICC which are critical stakeholders in the Cardano ecosystem. This upgrade helps increase the level of openness through on-chain decision-making for crucial matters.
Transition to Full Decentralization
The Plomin Hard Fork by Cardano provides decentralized governance in the system. ADA holders will be fully involved in the decision-making process regarding the changes within the protocol and the management of funds. The governance model provides openness and allows the community to control the process.
This upgrade was based on the Cardano Constitution drafted in December of 2024. With the hard fork put in place, a new feature will allow voting on critical decisions directly within the blockchain. The Eastern Cardano Council did not vote, but the process was approved by a majority of 66.67%.

Cardano’s governance system is designed to define a new paradigm of blockchain decentralization. This upgrade shifts the control over decisions to ADA holders, thus increasing the responsibility for the platform. Thus, with Plomin Hard Fork, Cardano is getting closer to a fully decentralized environment.
Binance to Support Cardano’s Plomin Hard Fork and Network Upgrade
On 28th January, Binance announced that it would support Cardano’s Plomin Hard Fork. The exchange will pause ADA deposits and withdrawals on Jan 29 at 20:45 (UTC). The services will be back online once the upgrade is complete and stable.

The process will not impact ADA trading. Binance also promised that it will handle all technical aspects of the project. Similarly, other major exchanges have also made necessary arrangements for the transition, thus minimizing possible risks. Meanwhile, important dApps such as Minswap, Genius Yield, and Fluid Tokens have made changes in their systems.
Cardano’s native token, ADA, did not react significantly following the announcement. ADA is trading at $0.9212, down by 3% in the past 24 hours. Its market cap and trading volume are $32.39 billion and $702 million, respectively.
