Strategy-Linked Wallet Moves $18.9M in Bitcoin as Saylor Hints at Another Purchase

Highlights:

  • Strategy-linked wallet moved 299.84 BTC worth $18.91 million, but the company has not confirmed a sale.
  • Michael Saylor’s “Bitcoin Drive engaged” post raised speculation that Strategy may be preparing another Bitcoin purchase.
  • Trump Media also moved 2,628 BTC worth $165.07 million, though the transfer remains unconfirmed as a sale.

A Bitcoin wallet linked to Strategy moved 299.84 BTC worth about $18.91 million, raising fresh questions about whether the company is selling more Bitcoin. Blockchain analytics platform Lookonchain reported the transfer on August 3. However, neither Strategy nor Executive Chairman Michael Saylor has confirmed that the movement was a sale.

A wallet transfer does not always mean Bitcoin has been sold. Companies may move funds between their own addresses, use custodial services or reorganize their holdings. Therefore, the transaction should remain classified as an unconfirmed movement unless Strategy reports a sale.

Is Michael Saylor's @Strategy selling $BTC again?

The last time they moved $BTC was between July 1 and July 5.

Previous Bitcoin Sales Put Strategy’s Latest Transfer Under Scrutiny

The latest transfer attracted attention because Strategy’s previous major Bitcoin movements resulted in confirmed sales. The company sold 1,363 BTC between June 29 and June 30 for $80.8 million. It then sold another 2,225 BTC between July 1 and July 5 for $135.2 million. The two sales totaled 3,588 BTC and generated about $216 million.

Strategy said it used the proceeds to pay distributions on its preferred stock and replenish the U.S. dollar reserve used for those payments. The sales reduced its Bitcoin holdings from 847,363 BTC to 843,775 BTC.

The company’s latest official disclosure showed that it still held 843,775 BTC as of July 26. Strategy acquired those coins for about $63.69 billion at an average price of $75,476 per Bitcoin. Therefore, the 299.84 BTC movement has not yet changed the company’s officially reported balance.

Strategy has sold 3,588 $BTC for $216 million to fund dividends on our Digital Credit securities. As of 7/5/2026, we hodl ₿843,775 in our BTC Reserves and $2.55 billion in our USD Reserves. https://t.co/Cssgz29Psj

Strategy also confirmed on July 30 that its board had authorized a Bitcoin monetization program. The company may sell Bitcoin to support its dollar reserve, pay preferred-stock dividends and interest, or fund security repurchases. The program allows up to $1.25 billion in Bitcoin sales to support the reserve.

However, Michael Saylor said the authorization was not new. In an August 1 post on X, he described the report as “old news presented as new” and said Strategy had announced the framework on June 29. Saylor explained that the program permits Bitcoin sales for approved purposes but does not require them. He added that Strategy expects to remain a net buyer of Bitcoin over time. His statement did not confirm whether the latest 299.84 BTC transfer was a sale.

Michael Saylor’s Post Fuels New Bitcoin Purchase Speculation

Despite the transfer, Saylor appeared to signal that Strategy could return to buying. On August 2, he posted the company’s Bitcoin tracker with the message, “Bitcoin Drive engaged.” Such Sunday posts have often appeared before Strategy’s weekly Bitcoin updates. However, the message did not confirm a purchase.

Trump Media Also Moves More Bitcoin

Lookonchain separately reported that Trump Media appeared to move another 2,628 BTC worth about $165.07 million. The analytics platform estimated that the company had sold 7,281 BTC over seven months after originally buying 11,542 BTC for $1.37 billion. However, the latest transfer also remains an on-chain assessment rather than a company-confirmed sale.

At the time of writing, Bitcoin was trading near $63,100, down about 0.4% over the past 24 hours. BTC was also roughly 50% below its all-time high of $126,198, reached in October last year.
