Strategy, the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin (BTC), reportedly acquired 4,603 BTC between August 24 and August 30, according to on-chain crypto analytics firm Santiment. The company spent roughly $369.7 million, at the rate of $80,318 per token in its latest Bitcoin acquisition. This was Strategy’s first Bitcoin purchase since June 22, 2026, increasing the company’s Bitcoin holdings to about $845,050 BTC.
The average cost of each BTC in the company’s treasury is roughly $75,412. Based on Bitcoin’s closing price on August 31, Strategy’s entire BTC holdings sat at an unrealized gain of about 3.6%. Unrealized profits simply mean that the company has not sold any additional BTC, so the gain exists only on paper.
Before this latest purchase, Strategy sold Bitcoin. Between June 23 and its most recent purchase, Strategy sold roughly 6,916 BTC for about $432.5 million. The company sold the tokens at an average of $62,500 per Bitcoin. More importantly, Strategy paid roughly $17,800 more per BTC than the average price at which it had sold.

The $369.7 million may sound huge, but it is actually small compared with the overall Bitcoin market. Bitcoin’s average daily trading volume during the second half of August was roughly $45 billion. Strategy’s purchase therefore represented less than 1% of the average daily Bitcoin trading volume during that period. So while Strategy remains one of the largest corporate Bitcoin holders, this purchase may not significantly affect the wider Bitcoin market.

Bitcoin Closed August in Green for the First Time
Bitcoin’s valuation gained 25.1% in the just-concluded month, as the asset rose from $62,794 in early August to $78,545 on August 31. This marked BTC’s strongest August performance since November 2024 and the third-best August in Bitcoin’s history. The remarkable feat means that Bitcoin closed July and August profitably.
Based on historical trends, Bitcoin could close September in the red. This has always been the pattern whenever the asset closes the two months preceding September in profit. While August appeared profitable, traders suffered significant losses. For instance, traders got liquidated for $5.8 billion between August 17 and 21. This was almost half of the entire month’s total liquidations. August 19 alone recorded short liquidations worth roughly $2.7 billion, marking the largest single day for short liquidations.
