Robinhood Chain Goes Live with Public Testnet Launch

Highlights:

  • Robinhood has rolled out its public testnet called Robinhood Chain.
  • Robinhood Chain will focus on bringing financial products on-chain.
  • Builders can start developing and testing applications on the testnet ahead of the mainnet release.

American financial services company Robinhood has launched the public testnet for its new blockchain network called Robinhood Chain. The company announced the move in an official press release dated February 10. Robinhood Chain is an Ethereum Layer 2 built using Arbitrum technology. Its rollout will mark the first major step toward launching Robinhood’s on-chain network focused on financial services.

According to Robinhood, the chain’s main goal is to bring more financial products onto the blockchain. In addition, this early phase supports experimentation to identify and fix issues, strengthen network stability, and prepare the ecosystem ahead of the full launch. The company’s initial focus will be on tokenized real-world assets and digital assets.

Now that the testnet has gone live, developers can start building and testing applications ahead of the mainnet, which is expected to go live later this year. As part of efforts to attract developers, Robinhood has released full developer documentation to guide builders through the development process.

Robinhood Chain Comes with New Offerings

Because of its connection with Arbitrum, Robinhood Chain works with standard Ethereum development tools. It also connects to Ethereum’s broader Decentralized Finance (DeFi) liquidity. This means developers who have already built on Ethereum will have an edge as they will not need to learn a completely new system. Moreover, many infrastructure companies are already showing strong support for the testnet. These include Alchemy, Allium, Chainlink, LayerZero, and TRM.

Robinhood is confident that more firms will be willing to collaborate as testing continues. The company also noted that its new network prioritizes security, reliability, and regulatory compliance. It also supports smooth asset bridging and self-custody, while offering the scale needed for financial applications. The company expects builders to develop products, such as tokenized asset platforms, lending platforms, and perpetual futures exchanges.

Developers to Enjoy Special Benefits

Robinhood confirmed that builders on the testnet will gain access to special test-only assets in the coming months. These include Stock Tokens that can be used for integration testing. Developers will also be allowed to test directly with Robinhood Wallet. Johann Kerbrat, Robinhood’s SVP and GM of Crypto and International, said the testnet serves as a foundation for an ecosystem focused on tokenized real-world assets and access to DeFi liquidity within Ethereum.

Kerbrat added:

“We look forward to building alongside our infrastructure partners as we work to bring financial services on-chain.”

Steven Goldfeder, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Offchain Labs, noted that Arbitrum’s developer-friendly technology makes Robinhood Chain an ideal platform for the next phase of tokenized and permissionless financial services. “Working alongside the Robinhood team, we are excited to help build the next stage of finance,” he added.
