Kraken has launched trading for US-listed stocks across the European Economic Area (EEA), expanding its platform beyond cryptocurrency and tokenized assets. Eligible customers can now trade more than 7,000 US stocks through Kraken alongside crypto assets and tokenized stocks.
The crypto exchange announced the expansion on August 18, according to its official Kraken Blog. The service operates under Kraken’s MiFID II authorization and is available through Kraken Pro on desktop and mobile, as well as the main Kraken mobile app.

Kraken Brings US Stocks and Tokenized Assets Together
Kraken said customers can now access traditional US-listed shares and xStocks from the same platform. xStocks are tokenized versions of US-listed equities that are fully backed 1:1 by the underlying shares. The platform also supports more than 600 crypto assets. As a result, eligible EEA customers can manage stocks, cryptocurrencies and tokenized equities without moving funds between different trading platforms.
Mark Greenberg, Chief Commercial Officer of Payward and Head of Payward Services, said the launch removes the divide between traditional and tokenized versions of the same asset. “That’s what modern investing should look like: one asset class, multiple formats, fully integrated”, he added.
Traditional stocks and xStocks work differently even when they provide exposure to similar companies. Standard shares trade through traditional market systems and follow public market hours. Tokenized stocks use blockchain infrastructure and offer additional features.
For example, Kraken says xStocks can be transferred to self-custody wallets and used with supported onchain applications. They can also trade during periods when traditional public stock markets are closed. Kraken said xStocks have already generated more than $38 billion in total transaction volume since their launch.
US Stock Trading Operates Under MiFID II Rules
Kraken is offering the stock service through Payward Europe Digital Solutions (CY) Limited. The company is an authorized MiFID investment firm regulated by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission. Eligible EEA customers can trade US-listed stocks without a trading commission. However, Kraken said other charges may still apply, including spreads and foreign exchange costs.
The move gives Kraken a wider role in the investment market. The company has traditionally focused on cryptocurrency trading, but it is increasingly building a platform that combines digital assets with traditional financial products. Kraken said the new setup allows crypto users to access US equities without leaving the platform. At the same time, traditional investors can explore tokenized versions of stocks within the same trading environment.
The EEA rollout is part of Kraken’s broader push toward a multi-asset investment platform. The company plans to expand its integrated stock offering to additional markets in the coming months. The launch also strengthens the connection between traditional equities and blockchain-based financial products.
