FIFA to Launch New Blockchain for NFTs with Migration Set After May 20

FIFA, the governing body of football, is set to launch its own blockchain network, called FIFA Blockchain. The new blockchain will support its non-fungible token Tokens platform, FIFA Collect, the official digital collectibles platform of the body. This new platform will host the organization’s digital collectibles, which will be moved from the Algorand blockchain. The transition will start on or after May 20. FIFA has not yet announced the exact date but will notify users when the schedule is confirmed.

There is no immediate action required from users. In the event that additional steps are required as part of the migration, FIFA will provide full instructions. All NFTs that remain on the platform will transfer automatically to the new network after the deadline. If users have exported collectibles earlier, they must re-import them before the deadline.

To help users, the re-import feature will be available for a limited time. Anyone who misses the deadline must contact customer support. They will also need to complete a verification process to recover their items. FIFA will take the platform offline for about half a day on the day of migration. It will notify all users ahead of this temporary shutdown.

Those who are holding USDC can still spend their coins before the switch. However, they can then only withdraw funds after the migration is complete. All account holders will also experience this temporary change to wallet activity.

New Platform to Adopt Ethereum Standards for Compatibility and Growth

FIFA Blockchain will support EVM standards. As a result, users can use their collectibles through wallets such as MetaMask or other WalletConnect compatible wallets.
