Bitpanda, a digital asset broker backed by Peter Thiel, has introduced Vision Chain, an Ethereum layer 2 network designed to bring regulated tokenized assets into Europe’s financial system. The company built the network with the Vision Web3 Foundation and Optimism to support financial institutions that need a compliant blockchain infrastructure. Vision Chain runs on the Optimism OP Stack, which allows faster transaction processing and lower costs while maintaining Ethereum security.

Vision Chain allows banks, fintech firms, asset managers, developers, and retail users to access a shared blockchain environment that meets European regulatory standards. Institutions can issue and settle tokenized assets while maintaining clear reporting and audit trails.

Bitpanda created Vision Chain to be in line with MiCAR, MiFID II, and DORA, which specify the functioning of digital assets in the European Union. These regulations demand high adherence, effective reporting, and resilience in operations. Vision Chain enables these institutions to fulfill these requirements and the use of blockchain technology in real-life conditions.

The network uses euro-denominated stablecoins to process transaction fees, which helps reduce exposure to crypto price swings. This approach allows institutions to manage costs with more certainty during daily operations. Vision Chain also uses a rollup structure that bundles transactions before sending them to Ethereum.

The network employs the OP Enterprise framework developed by Optimism, which focuses on infrastructure operations, system upgrades, and network maintenance. This arrangement enables institutions to concentrate on developing financial products rather than operating blockchain systems.

Vision Chain connects to a wider ecosystem that Bitpanda has developed to support digital asset activity. The ecosystem includes a non-custodial wallet that allows users to control their assets directly. It also includes Vision Protocol, which aggregates liquidity across different blockchain networks. In addition, Bitpanda operates a launchpad that supports early-stage web3 projects.

The Vision token supports governance and rewards across the ecosystem. Users can stake the token to earn incentives and take part in network decisions. Bitpanda also introduced a fee-based buyback system that removes tokens from circulation over time.

Institutional Expansion Strategy Faces Rising Tokenization Competition

Bitpanda has expanded its business beyond retail trading by building institutional services through Bitpanda Enterprise. The company supports partners such as N26, Deutsche Börse Group, selected Raiffeisen banks, and RAKBANK. These partners use Bitpanda’s infrastructure to offer digital asset services to their clients.

The company has indicated plans to list on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, with a target valuation between €4 billion and €5 billion. Vision Chain supports this plan by providing infrastructure that connects regulated finance with blockchain systems.

Other companies are also building blockchain systems for tokenized assets. Robinhood is testing a blockchain designed for tokenized stock trading and decentralized finance connections. Large banks such as JPMorgan Chase and Société Générale have also developed tokenization platforms, although many operate as closed systems.
