ZAMA Token Supports the Zama Protocol
ZAMA is the native token of the Zama Protocol, which focuses on bringing privacy to public blockchains. Network operators can stake ZAMA to help perform the cryptographic operations needed for confidential transactions. Protocol fees also flow through the token.
Zama is built around Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE). The technology allows computers to process encrypted information without first revealing or decrypting the underlying data. For blockchain users, that can help keep sensitive details such as account balances, transaction amounts, and other financial information private. At the same time, the blockchain can still process and verify transactions.
Most public blockchains are transparent by design. Anyone can normally view transactions recorded onchain. While that transparency supports verification, it can create privacy concerns for individuals, companies, and financial institutions.
Zama aims to address that problem without creating a separate private blockchain. Instead, the protocol adds a confidentiality layer to existing public blockchain networks, starting with Ethereum. Applications can therefore continue using public blockchain infrastructure while keeping selected financial information encrypted.
Zama Pushes Confidential Onchain Finance
The Revolut availability comes as Zama continues expanding the technology behind confidential blockchain applications. Zama was founded in 2020 by entrepreneur Rand Hindi and cryptographer Pascal Paillier, who serves as the company’s chief technology officer. The company has focused on turning FHE from academic research into technology that can support real-world blockchain applications.
The project raised $73 million in a Series A round in 2024, co-led by Multicoin Capital and Protocol Labs. It later secured $57 million in Series B funding last year, co-led by Pantera Capital and Blockchange Ventures. Zama said the second round made it the first FHE company to reach unicorn status.
Zama says confidential financial products are already operating with institutional partners through its protocol. The company sees privacy as an important part of bringing areas such as payments, trading and other financial services onchain.
Making ZAMA available through Revolut adds another distribution channel for the token while giving mainstream crypto users easier access to the Zama ecosystem. Meanwhile, the planned Learn & Earn program could introduce more Revolut users to FHE and confidential blockchain transactions later this year.
