Highlights:
- XRP price is down intraday, but shrinking trading volumes hint at holder confidence.
- XRP’s intraday drop is mainly driven by short-term profit-taking.
- Strengthening core fundamentals and improving the macro environment could push XRP higher.
XRP (XRP) is down today, a reflection of the broader market correction in the day. When writing, XRP was trading at $1.41, down by 4.95% in the day. XRP trading volumes have also dropped in the day, down 37.6% to stand at $3.95 billion. The drop in trading volumes alongside the price is a positive indicator for XRP. It means that despite the short-term price correction, the average long-term holder of XRP is not keen on selling. This is perfectly in line with what is happening across the market, where prices are down intraday but core fundamentals remain strong.
Profit-Taking Pushing XRP Price Lower Intraday
The short-term XRP selling is mainly driven by profit-taking. Last week, after the US announced a long-term bond buyback and the White House Cryptocurrency Summit happened, the market rallied across the board. XRP was among the top gainers in this period. However, the momentum started to drop after Bitcoin hit $80k and started to falter. Since XRP, like the rest of the market, trades in the overall direction of Bitcoin, it is showing weakness today as well.
#XRP is around $1.43–$1.44, down roughly 4.6–4.8% over 24 hours. That means the overnight weakness has continued rather than stabilised yet, although XRP is still about 44% higher over seven days.

This intraday weakness is further driven by the fact that XRP and other major cryptocurrencies are trading at key resistance levels. As such, short sellers are coming in anticipating failure at these levels. Leveraged buyers who bought into the rally from last week are also starting to exit the market, trying to protect their profits. Despite this short-term weakness, the odds still favor a continuation of the XRP rally going into the future.
XRP ETFs Remain Net Positive Despite Intraday Selloff
A key factor that could push XRP higher is the fact that its ETFs continue to attract buyers. Latest data shows that on August 25, XRP ETFs recorded net inflows of $23.87 million. This marked the 9th straight day of net inflows into XRP ETFs. This goes to show that despite the intraday price weakness, institutional capital still expects XRP to do well going into the future. The growing inflows are also likely to influence short-term retail traders to start going long on XRP as well, and drive the price higher in the future.
XRPL Integration Into FedPay Could Boost XRP Long Term
XRP could also get a boost from news that it has now been integrated with FedPay. The move essentially plugs the XRP Ledger directly into the same Federal Reserve system that is used by banks. While the move does not involve XRP directly, it is still a big deal when the XRPL gets such a major boost in adoption. That’s because XRP is the token that underpins the whole XRP Ledger in the same way that ETH works for the Ethereum network. The result is that XRP could get the kind of demand boost that could send it to new highs in the short to medium term.

Positive Expectations Around Interest Rates Could Push XRP Higher
Such news is also coming at a time when the markets have positive expectations around interest rates. The markets increasingly believe that the Federal Reserve will either cut rates in September or leave them where they are. This is a significant shift from July, when the expectation was largely that they could hike. Since positive expectations around rates push the markets into risk-on mode, XRP could be up for another leg up in the foreseeable future.
Technical Analysis – XRP Price is Showing Weakness at Key Resistance
After its recent price rally, XRP hit strong resistance at $1.51. If bulls take control and push XRP through this resistance, a rally to $2.34 could follow.

On the other hand, if bears gain momentum, XRP could drop to the $0.99 support in the short term. Of these scenarios, a rally to $2.34 is more likely. This is due to XRP’s growing fundamentals and the fact that the underlying momentum across the market remains bullish despite intraday weakness.
