Highlights:
- Stablecoin market capitalization falls $17 billion to $263 billion, reaching its lowest level in over a year.
- Binance stablecoin holdings drop from $51 billion to $34 billion as weak demand and security concerns persist.
- CryptoQuant analyst Darkfost warns that declining stablecoin liquidity could put further pressure on the broader crypto market.
The stablecoin market has lost $17 billion since April, reaching its lowest level in more than a year. Weak investor demand and concerns over recent crypto hacks have added pressure on the market. Binance has also seen a sharp drop in stablecoin holdings as fresh capital entering the crypto market remains limited.
In a November 3 post on X, CryptoQuant analyst Darkfost said the total stablecoin market cap had dropped from about $280 billion to $263 billion. That marks a 6% decline over six months. He linked the drop to weak demand and a slowdown in new money flowing into cryptocurrencies.

Binance Stablecoin Holdings Drop Sharply Following Hack
Darkfost said Binance holds around 70% of the stablecoins kept on exchanges. However, its stablecoin holdings have dropped from about $51 billion to $34 billion, based on a 90-day moving average. The decline started more than a year ago and has continued in recent months.
The recent Binance hack added to the problem. According to Darkfost, hackers stole around $3 billion in stablecoins during the attack. Still, Binance had been losing stablecoin balances long before the breach. Darkfost said weak demand and fewer new investments have contributed to the decline. He also pointed to economic uncertainty and geopolitical tensions as possible reasons investors are staying cautious.
Meanwhile, there are fresh concerns about holding crypto on trading platforms due to repeated security violations occurring across the crypto industry. These risks could be discouraging investors to expand crypto exposure, says Darkfost. But when exchange balances fall, that does not necessarily denote that investors have withdrawn all their funds from the market. Some traders could take stablecoins to private wallets or other platforms without decreasing the total stablecoin supply.
Weak Stablecoin Liquidity Raises Concerns for Crypto Market
The decline comes as the crypto market struggles to attract fresh capital. Stablecoin supply remains an important measure of available liquidity, as traders often use these assets to buy Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
When stablecoin supply falls, traders may have less capital available for new purchases. However, the relationship is not always direct, as investors can also enter the market through other channels.
Darkfost warned that the market needs fresh liquidity to maintain its recent recovery. Without stronger demand, the positive trend seen in recent months could reverse. Still, the analyst did not provide a specific price target or predict when liquidity might recover. Instead, his findings focused on the continued decline in stablecoin supply and exchange balances.
Darkfost further noted that Binance’s retail deposits into Bitcoin had hit a multi-year low. The 30-day moving average is now down to 281 BTC from its all-time highs of approximately 2,700 BTC in 2019-2021. He proposed that long-term holding and Bitcoin ETFs could contribute to some of the drop.
