Highlights:
- Fidelity says crypto may be nearing a bottom, but warns the recent rebound does not confirm recovery.
- Bitcoin’s four-year cycle, stronger adoption and lower volatility are key signals Fidelity is watching into Q4.
- Fidelity says regulation, institutional demand and growth in stablecoins and tokenized assets could support the market ahead.
Fidelity says the crypto market may be getting closer to a bottom after Bitcoin, Ethereum and several altcoins posted strong gains in late August. However, the investment firm warned that the recent rebound does not confirm that the bear market is over.
In its September 1 Q4 crypto market outlook, Fidelity said Bitcoin had its strongest green month since November 2024 after spending much of the third quarter under pressure. The late-August recovery has now shifted attention toward the final months of 2026 and the factors that could drive the next major move.
Fidelity: Despite Bitcoin’s Strong August Rally, It Remains Unclear Whether the Bear Market Has Ended

Bitcoin’s Four-Year Cycle Puts November in Focus
One key factor is Bitcoin’s historical four-year market cycle. Previous major Bitcoin bear-market bottoms have formed roughly four years apart. The last major bottom came in November 2022, which has led some investors to watch November 2026 for another possible turning point.
Still, Fidelity stressed that the pattern is not a reliable market-timing tool. Bitcoin may have already formed a bottom in July, or prices could fall again and set another low later this year. Chris Kuiper, Vice President of Research at Fidelity Digital Assets, said adoption trends may be more useful for long-term investors.
“The more important point for investors is that adoption of digital assets has happened in waves, which can perpetuate cycles,” Kuiper said. Fidelity also pointed to a change in market volatility. Bitcoin traded with relatively low volatility from June through mid-August before making a much stronger move later in the month.
During the third week of August alone, Bitcoin jumped more than 25%. Ethereum gained 34.1% over the same period, while Solana climbed 28%. Fidelity said similar shifts from low volatility to stronger upward price moves have appeared near the end of previous crypto bear markets. However, the pattern does not guarantee another bull market.
Crypto Adoption Remains Strong Despite Weak Prices
Fidelity also sees continued crypto adoption as an important signal. Digital asset activity kept growing even while the broader crypto market struggled during recent months. The firm pointed to stablecoins and tokenized real-world assets as two examples. Bitwise reported in July that stablecoin transaction volume had reached 2.3 times Visa’s volume. MetaMask also reported that the real-world asset market has grown faster in 2026 than in any previous year.
At the same time, prices did not initially follow that growth. Fidelity said the late-August rally could be an early sign that crypto prices and adoption are beginning to move together again.
Regulation and Institutional Adoption Could Shape Q4
Regulation could also influence the market during the fourth quarter. Fidelity highlighted the CLARITY Act, which is designed to create clearer rules for digital assets in the United States. The legislation has passed the House but remains under consideration in the Senate.
Fidelity also pointed to the SEC’s proposed Regulation Crypto Assets framework, which covers possible securities-registration exemptions for some early-stage crypto offerings. For now, Fidelity is not calling the end of the bear market. Instead, the firm sees several factors worth watching, including Bitcoin’s historical cycle, improving adoption, regulation, institutional demand and changing volatility as the crypto market moves through Q4.
