- Customers can trade fractional shares from £1 without commissions using GBP or USDC.
- The launch follows the approval of new derivative products in Australia.
America’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, Coinbase, has started rolling out round-the-clock weekday trading for nearly 4,000 US stocks in Britain. Eligible customers can manage equities alongside crypto and cash within the company’s mobile app. The August 6 launch will reach users progressively, according to the announcement.
Coinbase Gives UK Traders Longer Stock Access
Initially, eligible customers can buy fractional shares from £1. Moreover, the service charges no trading commission on stock trades. Users can fund purchases instantly with British pounds or USDC balances held inside the application.
Meanwhile, Coinbase One members can earn uncapped rewards on eligible USDC holdings. However, the company has not presented those rewards as stock investment returns. Instead, the feature connects stablecoin balances with the new equity service.

The platform offers trading throughout each weekday, including hours outside regular US exchange sessions. Therefore, UK customers gain more flexibility around work schedules and market-moving events. The service pauses during weekends, unlike crypto markets, which operate every day.
Notably, the company calls itself the first crypto-native application offering US equities in Britain. It also presents the rollout as part of its broader Everything Exchange strategy. That plan combines crypto, stocks, derivatives, savings, and borrowing through one account.
UK Product Push Moves Beyond Crypto Markets
The Financial Conduct Authority granted permissions that widened the company’s investment services in Britain in July. As a result, the authorization supports equities for retail customers and derivatives for professional traders. It also creates room for more investment products during the coming months.
In April, the company introduced savings accounts and crypto-backed loans for British customers. Additionally, its borrowing product lets users secure USDC against Bitcoin and Ethereum through Morpho. The structure uses an on-chain lending protocol rather than Coinbase’s corporate balance sheet.
Meanwhile, management argues that easier access may support stronger retail participation in US shares. UK households invest less in stocks than many American households, according to recent industry surveys the company referenced. Still, the launch focuses on access and convenience rather than participation targets.
The timing also places the service before the UK’s wider crypto rules take full effect. Those rules take full effect on October 25, 2027. Meanwhile, companies have been urged to submit early applications under that framework before the 2027 regulatory deadline.
Derivatives Plans Extend Across Global Operations
Meanwhile, Coinbase Australia launched perpetual contracts for certified wholesale customers on August 5. The licensed product covers more than 150 crypto, equity, and commodity contracts. Moreover, eligible traders can access leverage reaching 50 times on selected markets.

The Australian service includes institutional liquidity, advanced order types, API access, and continuous settlement. Additionally, users can move from spot positions to perpetual contracts within the same trading environment. ASIC officially granted the company an Australian Financial Services Licence in April 2026.
The company is also preparing a major institutional derivatives transition. Coinbase plans to move International Exchange accounts, balances, and open positions to Deribit on September 9. Institutions that reject the transfer must close positions and accounts by August 28. Then, customers should receive read-only subaccount access from August 31.
That preparation window allows firms to check mappings, credentials, limits, and technical connections. Retail app and website customers will follow a different migration process.
