Bitcoin Whales Reduce 30,000 BTC While Ethereum Whales Keep Buying

Highlights:
- Bitcoin whales cut their holdings by about 30,000 BTC, while Ethereum whales added around 60,000 ETH.
- XRP whales barely changed their positions, keeping combined holdings near 3.90 billion XRP during the week.
- The mixed moves show large crypto holders are taking different approaches across Bitcoin, Ethereum and XRP.
Bitcoin, Ethereum and XRP whales are taking different positions as the crypto market moves through a quiet trading period. Bitcoin whale holdings fell by about 30,000 BTC over the past week, while Ethereum whales added roughly 60,000 ETH. XRP whales, meanwhile, made little change.
Crypto analyst Ali Charts shared the data on October 1, citing Santiment Intelligence. The figures show that large crypto holders are not following the same strategy across Bitcoin, Ethereum and XRP. Whales are wallets or entities holding large amounts of a cryptocurrency. Their activity is closely watched because large changes in holdings can offer clues about broader market positioning.
2/5 Most of the market has moved sideways over the past week. So what have whales been doing during the lull?

Bitcoin Whales Reduce Holdings by 30,000 BTC
Bitcoin whales reduced their combined holdings by roughly 30,000 BTC over the past week. Ali Charts valued the decline at about $2.52 billion and said large holders appeared to be reducing their exposure. The change came while Bitcoin remained relatively stable during the week rather than making a major move in either direction.
A decline in whale balances does not necessarily mean every Bitcoin was sold directly on the market. Coins can also move between wallets, exchanges or custody services. However, a sustained decline in large-holder balances can become an important on-chain signal for traders watching Bitcoin whale activity.
At the time of writing, BTC was trading near $83,700, down 2% in the past 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap.
Ethereum Whales Add $162M While XRP Holdings Stay Stable
Ethereum whales moved in the opposite direction. Large holders accumulated about 60,000 ETH during the same period, worth roughly $162 million based on the figures shared by Ali Charts. The accumulation suggests major Ethereum holders increased their positions while Bitcoin whales reduced theirs. Ethereum was trading near $2,697 at the time of writing, down 1.48 0.4% over 24 hours.
XRP whale activity was much quieter. Their combined holdings stayed around 3.90 billion XRP throughout the week, with no significant change. XRP was trading around $1.49, down 3% in the past 24 hours. Ali Charts summarized the divergence: “Bitcoin whales are reducing holdings, Ethereum whales are buying, and XRP whales are waiting.”
Bitcoin Drawdown Keeps Market Conditions in Focus
The whale data comes as traders continue to watch Bitcoin’s recovery after a sharp market correction. In a separate October 1 post, on-chain analyst Darkfost said the downturn looked even worse when measured by investor losses rather than price alone.
According to Darkfost, about 87% of the money invested in Bitcoin was in loss at one point during the decline. He estimated those losses at more than $930 billion, compared with Bitcoin’s market value of around $1.07 trillion at the time.
Sure, with a 52% drawdown you could think this bear market was milder than the previous ones.
That is, until you look at it in terms of capital.
