According to the job listing, the specialist will work with internal labeling tools and closely with engineers. Their goal is to help Grok better understand digital asset markets and trading behavior. The role also involves teaching the model how to reason technically and make judgments before acting on instructions.

Key tasks include analyzing blockchain data, token economics, derivatives, and market inefficiencies. This work will cover both centralized and decentralized platforms. The specialist will also review Grok’s outputs and suggest better approaches using math-based logic and code-driven solutions.

CoinDCX CEO Backs xAI’s Crypto Push as Grok Targets Market Intelligence

CoinDCX CEO Sumit Gupta welcomed the move. He wrote, “X is already the number one place where crypto Twitter gathers. If Elon Musk wants xAI and Grok to become the top research platform for crypto users, too, that’s a clear positive for the crypto ecosystem.” His comments highlight the potential impact of this hiring plan. The crypto community is already very active on Musk’s social platform X, which could help Grok gain faster adoption among crypto users.

The role also involves guiding Grok through complex trading situations. These include liquidity crunches, liquidations, and periods of extreme volatility. The specialist will study on-chain flows and spot inefficiencies across trading platforms.

Other tasks cover funding rate trades, price gaps, order book behavior, and miner extractable value, also known as MEV. These areas are key to understanding how crypto markets really work and how Grok should process them.

xAI Sets Strict Requirements for Crypto Specialist Role

Applicants must meet strict criteria. xAI wants candidates to have a master’s or PhD in a quantitative field or similar experience. They should also know data platforms like Dune Analytics, Glassnode, Nansen, and DefiLlama. Preferred degrees include financial engineering, applied mathematics, computer science, or statistics. Experience at crypto funds or market makers is a big plus. Open-source work and public research also add value.

The company also clarified compensation details, stating: “Hourly pay is just one part of our total rewards package at xAI. Specific benefits vary by country; depending on your country of residence, you may have access to medical benefits. We do not offer benefits for part-time roles.” This indicates that the role is structured to attract full-time professionals with serious expertise.

This hiring push comes as Musk announced the merger of SpaceX and xAI. In a Monday blog post, he called the combined company “the most ambitious, vertically integrated innovation engine on and off Earth, with AI, rockets, and space internet.” Public records from Nevada, seen by CNBC, show the deal was completed on February 2.
